Rigby is located about 15 miles north of Idaho Falls along Highway 20. It was established as an official town in 1903. Part of Jefferson County, Rigby has a population of approximately 3,007. Over the last two years the real estate in the area has increased rapidly becoming one of the fastest growing in all of southeast Idaho.
The present economic base is agriculture, construction, wholesale and retail trade, and government employment. Rigby sits in close proximity to the INL, which makes it easy for a lot of residents to commute.
Rigby's claim to fame is Philo T. Farnsworth who is known as the "father of television." He resided in the area while developing his first plans for the television set.
Other nearby communities include Menan, Ucon, Lewisville, Iona, Ririe, and Rexburg.
